This book has been written in direct response to the needs of students of Geotechnical and Hydraulic Engineering at an upper intermediate and advanced level of English, who wish to improve their vocabulary in the subject matter of their university courses. Its primary goal is not to teach the subject, but to provide the students with the vocabulary which might be useful in their future studies and professional career.
The book offers a selection of authentic texts and some recordings illustrating the problems connected with geotechnical and hydraulic engineering. It consists of eight units subdivided into parts. Each part includes various activities aiming at introduction, comprehension, practice and consolidation of the technical vocabulary. Numerous tasks can be used selectively or adopted by the teacher to the needs of particular groups of students; furthermore, the book can be applied for self-study as the answer key is included at the back of the book.
The author hopes that this book will be both stimulating and enjoyable for students, as well as for teachers.
